10. April Smith & The Great Picture Show - Songs For A Sinking Ship
The fact that this is number ten is a huge surprise to me. This debut album of retro, vaudevillian pop did sit on my player for awhile, and I did enjoy it quite a bit, but I certainly expected it to be much farther down on the list. It doesn't matter, it was a well made freshman effort and has gotten a lot of play and press during the year. Like all good indie rockers, they are from Brooklyn and have resisted mainstream action as much as possible. Plus there are ukelele's.
